Race, penis size, and pseudoscience

A FORTHCOMING PAPER'S CLAIMS ABOUT RACIAL DIFFERENCES IN PENIS SIZE ARE UNFOUNDED.

A soon to be published study by Richard Lynn claims to have found scientific evidence that there are substantial differences in the average penis length of men from different races. These claims are in line with vulgar racial stereotypes and are part of a larger research agenda based on a belief in ‘race realism’. Advocates of race realism argue that there are real and pervasive differences between racial groups in personality, intelligence and social behaviour, that these differences have a genetic and evolutionary origin and that they can explain disparities in important social and economic outcomes between races. Lynn’s theories about race rest on shaky foundations and the data sources he uses as evidence for his claims about penis sizes are untrustworthy. For these reasons, his claims should be disregarded as unscientific.

Lynn’s (2012) proposal is based on the theories of the late J. Philippe Rushton. As noted in a previous article, Rushton, a notorious advocate of race realism, proposed that the major races can be sorted into a human hierarchy based on their supposed reproductive strategies. According to Rushton’s r-K life history theory, there are two main reproductive strategies forming ends of a continuum. The r-strategy involves large numbers of offspring with minimal investment, whereas the K-strategy involves fewer offspring and greater investment. According to Rushton, Africans are the most r-selected whereas Asians are the most K-selected, and Europeans are somewhere in between, although closer to Asians than Africans.

Enfermedades según razas


Dentro de las enfermedades, para explicar la prevalencia en un grupo de población o en otro, es fundamental conocer la etiología y los factores de riesgo de la enfermedad.

Simplificando muchísimo podríamos distinguir entre enfermedades de causa puramente genética y mayoritariamente hereditarias (como por ejemplo Huntington, drepanocitosis, daltonismo, etc) de enfermedades de causa multifactorial en la que intervienen tanto componentes genéticos como componentes ambientales. Así por poner algún ejemplo parece que es la dieta la principal causa de la altísima prevalencia de tumores de estómago y esófago en extremo Oriente (China, Japón). 


Es también la dieta (mediterránea en este caso: aceite de oliva, vino, etc frente a grasas animales y alcoholes de mayor gradación) la que nos protege relativamente a los países del sur de Europa (España, Italia) de enfermedades isquémicas cardiovasculares, más frecuentes entre nuestros vecinos del norte. Esa dieta (junto a nuestros médicos, claro) es responsable de que la esperanza de vida de las mujeres españolas sea la más alta de Europa y la segunda más alta del mundo (tras Japón).

Spelman: The Historically Black College Founded By Two White Lesbians

Spelman College
Spelman College, a historically Black Women’s College/University (HBCU), is one of the most prestigious HBCU’s in the United States. Founded by Sophia Packard and Harriet Giles, Spelman boasts a 78% graduation rate, a very stringent acceptance rate (38% of all applicants annually), and a hefty price tag. Though most of this information is general knowledge, here are five interesting facts about Spelman College that you may not have known.
1.  Spelman, a HBCU, was originally founded by two white women and named after a white woman.
On April 11, 1881, Sophia B. Packard and her longtime companion Harriet E. Giles opened a small school in the basement of Friendship Baptist church (a small African American church in southwest Atlanta) called the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary.  After the Women’s American Baptist Church, (of which Sophia was president), placed a down payment on its current location the next year, the ABFS moved to that location in 1883. The following year, the balance due on the property was paid in full by John D. Rockefeller, who had followed and supported Packard and Giles vision.  The school was renamed Spelman Seminary in honor of Laura Spelman-Rockefeller (John D. Rockefeller’s wife) and her parents Harvey Buel and Lucy Henry Spelman, who were staunch activists in the antislavery movement. It became Spelman College in 1924.

El retorno de las 'razas'



  • *El divulgador científico Nicholas Wade ha desatado la polémica con su último libro, en el que defiende la existencia de tres grandes 'razas': caucásica, asiática oriental y africana.

  • *De inmediato, algunos genetistas han atacado la obra, acusando al autor de tergiversar sus investigaciones y fomentar el racismo.


Ha llegado a las librerías españolas el libro que ha desencadenado una de las más virulentas confrontaciones académicas de los últimos años. Una herencia incómoda (ed. Ariel), del biólogo y divulgador Nicholas Wade, antes editor científico en Science The New York Times, trata de la raza, y ésta es siempre una cuestión controvertida desde el mismo momento en que buena parte de la comunidad científica comparte la opinión del antropólogo Ashley Montagu de que "la palabra misma 'raza' es en sí misma racista".
Wade, por el contrario, sostiene que los notables -aunque aún preliminares- avances en el conocimiento del genoma humano permiten afirmar que existen diferencias intrínsecas entre grandes grupos de población y que hablar de ello no abre la puerta al resurgimiento del racismo. "La ciencia trata de lo que es, no de lo que debería ser", sentencia el autor inglés residente en EEUU.

Testosterone, Race and IQ: Avenues for Research


I think exploring the testosterone factor might be fertile for getting at the roots of IQ differences between different groups.
Blacks are the high testosterone group, Asians are the low testosterone group, and Caucasians are somewhere in between the two. There is also disparitybetween the IQ scores of black males and black females.
It would be overly simplistic to draw too much of a negative correlation between testosterone and IQ, as we don’t have evidence that there is a gender disparity in IQ performance for Asians or Caucasians as there is for blacks. Maybe there’s a threshold level where testosterone becomes a significant impediment to developing cognitive ability. Maybe testosterone is one factor that is synergistic with others in interfering with the self control required to develop the cognitive intellect in the formative years.
It would also be interesting to compare the premium on intelligence as an adaptive characteristic between tribal and civil societies. Maybe high testosterone levels are adaptive in tribal societies while lower testosterone levels are adaptive in civil societies.

Violence, nature or nurture?


I believe that culture, as well as poverty, education, IQ and the like are all connected to violence, but correlation does not equal causation. We have to look deeper into the cause of the violence, not just what they often have in common.

How can we tell what there is in common if we do not have a good picture of the criminals though? Some crimes and criminals get a lot of publicity, because the story is sensational. The dog bites man story is common, but when a man bites a dog, that is news worthy! So we can't trust the media to report fairly on the common crime, or what links them together. They have been known to show a bias and hide key evidence. . .We can trust the science and the stats on crime though.  

For instance hormones. . .can we trace violence to certain hormones? Yes we can! It is called testosterone.

Situación actual de los Indígenas y Afrodescendientes en America


Los Indígenas en América Latina

América Latina es una región donde predomina la diversidad étnica y cultural y las comunidades indígenas hacen  parte fundamental de esa diversidad.

El indígena actual conserva rasgos y características de sus grupos de origen como la vida comunitaria, la relación con la naturaleza, la medicina tradicional, las creencias y saberes ancestrales,  la manera de comprender el mundo y la comunicación a través de su lengua nativa; pero también están influidos por el intercambio cultural con los mestizos, los negros y los blancos.

En las comunidades indígenas de América Latina existen dos (2) tipos de autoridad, la de orden religioso y la de orden político.

La autoridad religiosa está representada por los chamanes, médicos tradicionales, sailas y mamos; todos son figuras de sabiduría tradicional.  Se considera que su saber religioso se les ha transmitido por medio del sueño o de fenómenos naturales como la lluvia y el trueno.

La autoridad política o comunitaria está representada por el gobernador y las personas que hacen parte del cabildo como el capitán, el tesorero, el secretario, los comisarios, los alguaciles alcaldes y el fiscal.  Estos funcionarios cuentan  con la asesoría de los consejos de ancianos para la toma de decisiones de la comunidad.

Estas autoridades se encargan de asuntos relacionados con la distribución de las tierras, la solución de litigios por límites de parcelas, la investigación de robos, la aprobación de matrimonios y el castigo a los que dañan la paz pública.

Las autoridades políticas son elegidas por asamblea comunitaria y cuando alguna persona es designada para algún cargo político, debe trabajar tiempo completo, sin recibir salario; a la vez, estas personas siguen viviendo y trabajando como cualquier miembro de la comunidad.
Cada comunidad política tiene un eje o centro político determinado; por ejemplo los de la Amazonía se agrupan alrededor de la Maloca (lugar sagrado) mientras en los guambianos el Cabildo es el eje dinamizador de todas sus actividades.

El trabajo en las comunidades es considerado como medio de subsistencia y beneficio colectivo; el que trabaja tiene derecho a la tierra y al reconocimiento dentro de la sociedad.  Los indígenas actuales trabajan principalmente en los cultivos, la ganadería, la caza, la pesca y la recolección e intercambio de productos; base económica de estas comunidades.

The Sixties And The Negro Revolution / Los años sesenta y la Revolución Negra

Society chooses not to see the most obvious things.  Living back in the fifties any idea of a Negro revolt or race war was carefully hidden even if any White person even suspected what was going on in the Negro mind.  Writing here in 2014 many things about the Negro revolt that were unrecognized or supposedly debatable  have become clear.  In my account then I will relate to the past, the present of the Sixties and the future being realized today.

The Negroes have always claimed that racism is endemic to White Americans.  This attitude misses that the point of the actual differences between Homo Sapiens and Homo Africanus species.  If the species were undifferentiated then ‘racism’ could be claimed but where the two different species have obvious different capabilities then the problem is shifted to another plane.

We are told that the African was the first edition, Homo 1.0, of Homo Sapiens which implies that the Last Homonid Predecessor to the Negro was sub-human.  Unfortunately the record of all the immediate predecessors to Homo Africanus have disappeared from the Earth without a trace.  We have a multi-million year gap between ancient homonids and Africanus, so we really don’t know when the supposedly sub-human and the human begins.  We are told that only 2% of our genes differentiate ourselves from the Chimps which is all very well and good but what was the genetic difference between the LHP and Africanus?  A gene or two?  And if a gene or two can make a difference between sub-human and human who is to say that Africanus is not the LHP?

But I digress a little but meaningfully.  From the Negro point of view then endemic ‘racism’ is true and if not, it should be.  As White mental capabilities are of a higher order than that of the Negro the disparate impact of White Supremacy is unavoidable.  There is a biological difference in mental capabilities that cannot be eliminated.  What differentiated the LHP and Africanus cannot possibly be any more than that.  If both were stood side by side one must assume that there would have been no noticeable difference.  Perhaps skin tone.

The fact was made even more apparent during the Sixties when violent and criminal programs were enacted by Liberal Whites for the benefit of Africanus or in another word, the Negro.  These programs were expanded over the subsequent decades until the Negro ideal of the first being last and the last being first is being realized through the manipulation of political and legal mechanisms today.  Thus the least capable is subordinating the most capable.

Esta ciencia encuentra su origen en el siglo XVIII en el desarrollo de estudios de antropometría racial comparativa por parte de antropólogos físicos; aunque no fue hasta 1870 con la publicación de “Antropometrie”, del matemático belga Quetelet, cuando se considera su descubrimiento y estructuración científica. Pero fue a partir de 1940, con la necesidad de datos antropométricos en la industria, específicamente la bélica y la aeronáutica, cuando la antropometría se consolida y desarrolla, debido al contexto bélico mundial.
La primera tabla antropométrica para una población industrial hispana se realizó en 1996 en Puerto Rico por Zulma R. Toro y Marco A. Henrich.

As is usual among social humans, there is bitter conflict over “who is right” concerning the history of European – Tasmanian conflict. I could not care less about these social battles; arguments are not about the facts, but about who “owns” history. What does interest me is a pattern of “knocking off” small populations of wild humans, by the reduction of females allowed to reproduce with “wild males.” This pattern applies to the collision of peoples and cultures, in which one is powerful, numerous and RUTHLESS and the other is an indigenous population sheltered by geography from contact with human predators for hundreds to thousands of years. This process has been repeated countless times around the globe.

Black Spark, White Fire: Did African Explorers Civilize Ancient Europe?

Afrocentrism is a form of “ethno-nationalism” with deep roots in African-American and Afro-French traditions. Is it simultaneously a long overdue perspective on the place of Africa in the development of world civilizations, an indirect means for helping African-Americans contend with hegemonic Euro-American culture, and a direct assault on “Western” civilization, including rationalism and science. (1) Within the tradition there are any number of trends or variants, one of the most unusual being “Egyptocentrism.” Poe’s volume is, in many respects, a typical example of this latter genre.

Undoubtedly, it is tempting to read no further. But the subject of Afrocentrism will not simply go away, nor should it, since it captures much of what is wrong, and right, with both “Western” scholarship and its many critiques. Hysteria abounds on both sides of a yawning intellectual and social divide; how could it not? Afrocentrism kills and butchers sacred cows left and right. Sadly, the present volume does not contribute; it only further obfuscates.

This study is as breathless, lopsided, haphazard, and misinformed as can be imagined. Written in an excited, journalistic style, the book has a nonlinear structure. Unlike an academic presentation, it has a decided story arc. The rhetorical posture of the book stands explicitly against that of conventional scholarship, an enterprise that Poe regards as part of the problem and not the solution. 

Poe is a unique contributor to Afrocentric literature in that he is white; unfortunately, he simply parrots scholars from that and parallel traditions, primarily Martin Bernal. (2) In terms of methodology, there is the typical conflation of history, archaeology, myth, and literature, all seamlessly and uncritically woven into a single narrative. Homer, Herodotus, Pausanias, the Parian marble, the Mit Rahina inscription, the Book of Enoch, and numerous other texts are read literally and harmonized effortlessly. There is also the typical paranoia, primarily about conspiracies to withhold knowledge (not unfounded concerns to African-Americans) and to deprive Africa of its glorious Egyptian past.

The plot is complex and involves a host of the usual suspects. In brief, the book suggests that Sesostris founded a colony in Colchis from which Europeans, hitherto headhunting, cannibalistic, wicker-man burning, blue-painted types, learned civilization. The story covers much familiar ground and many familiar faces. 

The sphinx and the police artist Frank Domingo, Mark Lehner and John Anthony West, Count Volney, and Herodotus all make appearances early on. Later there are innumerable twists and turns, Karl Jung’s visit to Buffalo, the Nubian king Sesostris’s Twelfth Dynasty empire on the Black Sea, Michael Jackson’s Egyptian themed video, Frederick Douglass, the pre- Hispanic “city” of Cahokia, Daidalos, Kekrops (= Kheper-Ka-Re), Necco circumnagivating Africa, Thor Heyerdahl and Barry Fell, Ivan Van Sertima, Cyrus Gordon, Danaos establishing Egyptian colonies in Greece in 1511 B.C., cocaine mummies, Minyan kings and the Early Helladic pyramid at Amphion, the Master Race theory, Merlin, Arthur, the Qustul incense burner, Michael Crichton’s Harvard undergraduate thesis on Naqada skulls, and so on.

The Right to Racial Life


In 1968 a multiracial singing group called "Up With People" toured the United States promoting the oneness message of one world, one people and one race. Among other places, they visited the college where the author was a freshman, sending out multiracial teams of their youthful members to visit various classes. The team that visited the author's American history class claimed a religious justification for the unification of the different races and peoples of the world into one race and people. 

When the author asked them why the different races were created in the first place, and why were they then separated from each other on different continents, without contact until relatively recently, if it were indeed the will of the Creator to join and mix them together into one race, as they claimed, one of them replied that she had heard that question before, but none of them answered it. Even accepting their non-evolutionary and non-scientific perspective, deductive reasoning from the facts given in this question would not support their logically unsupported position, but would lead to conclusions quite contrary to their assertions. Faced with a question their premises could not answer, they ignored it.

An ideology, or system of ideas, beliefs and values, must enjoy a major degree of cultural dominance and control to be in a position to ignore facts that question or disprove its premises, to dismiss other ideas or values without serious consideration, or to discredit different beliefs just for being different. It must attain the level of being cultural dogma or orthodoxy, guarded and protected from heretical questions and beliefs by its control of the most influential cultural institutions. 

From the communications media of television, motion pictures, radio, newspapers, books and magazines, to the schools and universities, churches and civic groups, legal system and major political parties, and all levels of government, the ideology of oneness currently enjoys this level of cultural dominance, and has enjoyed it in increasing degree for most of this century. As the orthodox dogma of our culture, taking precedence over all others, and in consideration of its terminal effects on the Nordish (Northern European) race, it is important that it be carefully examined.

To mobilize those masses however, you need a powerful individualistic reason that goes back to the French Revolution of 1789, like class resentment. “If one is not free, none of us are free!”

INTRODUCCIÓN
Un sistema médico es un conjunto sociocultural organizado de prácticas, procedimientos, elementos materiales, personas y normas relacionados con los dominios del proceso salud enfermedad atención, que deriva sus bases conceptuales de los modelos médicos dominantes en cada contexto particular.1
Tradicionalmente los modelos teóricos con los cuales se ha abordado el proceso salud enfermedad han sido: el mágico religioso, caracterizado por la presencia de fuerzas desconocidas y espíritus,el sanitarista basado en las condiciones de salubridad,2 el social centrado en las condiciones de trabajo y de vida del hombre, el unicausal o de respuesta a agentes biológicos,3 el multicausal o confluencia de factores del agente, el huésped y el ambiente,elepidemiológico o de factores de riesgo,el ecológico,el histórico social o de perfiles de salud enfermedad según el contexto histórico, el modo de producción y las clases sociales,7-12 el geográfico,13 el económico14,15 y elinterdisciplinario.16,17 En la medicina tradicional indígena hay confluencia de varios de ellos, sin embargo, las autoridades de salud en algunos pueblos consideran que el acervo cultural hace que cada resguardo maneje modelos propios, según su cosmología o forma de comprender el universo; su cosmovisión o manera de ver el mundo y su cosmogonía, entendida como el conjunto de teorías míticas, religiosas y filosóficas sobre el origen del mundo.
La medicina tradicional, nominada en algunos contextos como alternativa, complementaria o no convencional, es definida por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) como:

La suma de prácticas, enfoques, conocimientos y creencias sanitarias que incorporan medicinas basadas en plantas, animales y/o minerales, terapias espirituales, técnicas manuales y ejercicios aplicados de forma individual o colectiva para mantener el bienestar, y tratar, diagnosticar y prevenir las enfermedades.18

Su importancia en la salud humana ha sido ampliamente referida en la literatura por varias razones: 1) presencia en comunidades con problemas en la prestación de servicios de salud institucionalizados, 2) mayor disponibilidad y asequibilidad, 3) ventajas económicas en los países en vía de desarrollo, 4) seguridad, eficacia y calidad de sus recursos terapéuticos,18 5) permite un trabajo más integrador con la comunidad, 6) ofrece la resolución de enfermedades desde una praxis menos dañina, y 7) mejora la cobertura de asistencia médica.19
